My Philosophical Growth:
Looking over my old philosophy papers and ideas has made me realize that several aspects of my philosophy have changed. For example, much of my old philosophy focused on rules, guidelines, and consequences. I was so focused on establishing rules and making sure my students understood and adhered to them that I forgot how important it is to let students grow and make mistakes. I also paid more attention to what I would be doing as a teacher rather than what my students needed to be doing and learning. In the past few semesters, I have learned the importance of student-centered learning rather than teacher-centered. While there were useful aspects of my past philosophies, I have learned so much more to ensure that my students receive the best and most fulfilling education possible. |
True Reflection of My Philosophy:
My teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in the theory of humanism. Every student is their own, unique individual with different strengths, talents, and hardships. Therefore, each student deserves an education that builds on their talents while strengthening the areas that need improvement. With this in mind, I will incorporate differentiation in my instruction where it is appropriate and necessary. I will also strive to create meaningful, caring, and professional relationships with each of my students and their guardians in order to better understand their needs and interests. Further, I will teach my students the importance of communication. I firmly believe that having the ability to communicate with classmates and teachers provides students with the ability to grow and learn in the most effective way. My classroom will be a positive environment in which students will be comfortable in answering and asking questions and collaborating with myself and their peers. This environment will be created by instilling in my students the importance of respect and kindness; I want my students to be happy when they are in my class. |
